What an amazing, inspirational lady...I wish she'd of been there to help my mum and my 2 sisters back in the day.....mum had to leave us 3 girls with our violent dad (she really thought he'd kill her)...when the violence then turned to us 3 little girls...I found my mum last year almost 50 years since she left...she was terribly sorry for leaving us but she's totally forgiven....thank the lord for Eleanor..helping families like mine...what a saviour. X

Dirty, smelly, rusty and sheer bloody hard work - but oh how I miss the raw power and earthiness, spiritual even, of those days, replaced by plastic, antiseptic modern life. Nostalgia - sure, that's what these engines told beautifully through your film does for me. Thank you.

Enjoyed going back in time l was born in Shaftesbury Road in 1938 and wish we could go back to the trustworthy ola days

It’s a great seaside town. I live around 10 miles away, we regularly take the dogs for Sunday walks on the beach. Some nice hidden restaurants and shops around lord street. They have had some great food festivals held in the nearby park too. Some of it is a bit old and in need of attention though. But I love that old British seaside town atmosphere. From the beach you can see Blackpool juts down the road, both great northern seaside towns. A bit gritty so not for everyone, but I love it.

Born and bred 1974. Was out today walking around the front in the sun. Litter all over. Pier closed down.Filth everywhere. Fairground decrepit Walked down Lord Street canopies flaking away. More shops empty row after row. So walked down to hesketh Park. Drunks ranting at passers by in the park. 8 police officers arresting someone by the children's cafe. It's so sad. My hometown is an utter mess.

Swan chippy was were we used to go for tea, the one with the fish tank inside, still open and fantastic to this day

Its so sad its gone after those idiots burnt it down they dont think about how much things like this pub mean tho people my grandparents remember going to this pub as children and playing in the bowling green it was a symbol of westhead and its such a shame to look over to castle lane and see a housing estate 😞

Enjoyed seeing the Town i was dragged about as a child with mum shopping. I wonder what happened to Queen Victorias statue in the road, Where the now Bus reminal is.

Lovely set of clips of my home area brings back memories for an Ormskirk lad and the trips to Preston, Liverpool and Southport by steam train. Between 1962 and 1964 the 7pm was a spotters must as it was often a duchess or a princess with just 4 coaches from a split train in Preston.

Spent a lot of time in Ormskirk through work in the 1970s and early 80s. Lovely quaint town with historic character. Ironically like neighbouring Liverpool opted to pedestrianize their main shopping areas for peoples comfort, and years later shops are vacant, footfall is lost and fewer people are around. Liverpool Church Street once its main thoroughfare looks sad, when I visited Ormskirk a few years ago the clip at 21.00 showed some units empty and a bit run down. That image with the outdoor market shows progress often shows little improvement

Southport use to be a great place it really was . Its a shame its gone to waste now it really is its sad to see how depressing the town center has gone .

Interesting that the roads were in much better condition than the disgrace they are today.

What a treat to hear the memories of Burscough all those years ago. My Dad used to have a factory in Mart Lane. I went to Lordsgate school when I was a girl.

Wow! So much cleaner, more vibrant and opulent back then than the sorry state it has now descended into. Refreshing to see no shifty, scrounging immigrants dragging the place down too.

Great memories of life there. KGV school, 2 minutes to the beach, and caddying at Royal Birkdale. Probably all ruined by progress.

Fab memories what a time to be alive life was much safer and so much fun. Before evil governments useless councils wokeness the awful Internet and total control. How grim life is now in comparison.

Lived in 14 fletchers Drive from birth in 1980 to 89, and then around the Rees Park area from 1998 to 2001. Getting sentimental watching the video. My Dad Len (Lenny) lived in Burscough on Hesketh Road until his death in 2019. So many memories and both good and bad. Great to see the really old photos. Enjoyed it very much.

Lived in Burscough from 1973 to 1979, was taken with the phone no. we were Burscough 3075 which had previously been the fish and chip shop. Looking at all the veg and sacks of potatoes, we lived cheaply up there always able to get plenty of produce at farm gates. On a train up from Euston with a ticket to Ormskirk, the guard checking the ticket exclaimed loudly, 'Ormskirk, that's were the cabbages come from'. Presumably he had bought packets of Clucas seeds for his allotment?

I think Williamson bakery was on the right hand side of the pic now occupied by houses.
